Cardiac Ultrasound "Echocardiography"
We are thrilled to announce that with the help of Dopl Technologies, Coulee Medical Center is now offering cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) services!
Our echocardiography services are administered by highly skilled and experienced sonographers. Your heart health is in excellent hands with all results being interpreted by seasoned cardiologists from MultiCare’s Pulse Heart Institute.
What is Echocardiography?
An echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to produce a detailed moving image of the heart. Unlike X-ray images, echocardiograms involve no radiation exposure. This noninvasive test is performed to assess the heart’s valves and chambers.
The echocardiogram helps cardiologists assess heart murmurs, evaluate the heart’s pumping function, and monitor patients who have experienced heart attacks.

No preparation is needed for this test.
During the test, a transducer, which is a small wand likeĀ device that is placed against the chest. The transducer emits ultrasound waves that bounce back (echo) from different parts of the heart. A computer processes the information received from the transducer to create an image of the heart. This image is displayed on a computer. These images are interpreted by a cardiologist then sent to your provider.
Size of the heart. The echocardiogram helps assess the size of heart chambers and the thickness of the heart muscle.
Pumping strength. The test checks if the heart pumps strongly and if all its parts work together effectively.
Valve problems. The test shows the shape and movement of heart valves, helping to identify narrowing or leaks and assess their severity.
Other uses. The test identifies fluid around the heart, blood clots, masses, and abnormal openings between heart chambers.
