Non-Skilled Swing Bed
After a hospital stay, some patients need additional time and support before safely returning home. Swing bed care allows you to continue your recovery in the hospital with the services and support you need.
Our team works closely with you to support your recovery, monitor your progress, and help plan your next steps.
What is a non-skilled swing bed stay?
Swing bed care allows patients to receive continued care in the hospital after their acute (inpatient) stay.
This level of care is designed for patients who are stable but still need:
- Support your daily care needs
- Assist with discharge planning
- Help coordinate next steps, including long-term care if needed
How is this different from skilled swing bed care?
- Skilled swing bed includes daily medical or therapy services
- Non-skilled swing bed focuses on support and assistance while preparing for the next step in care
How Long Will I Stay?
The length of your stay depends on your medical needs, recovery progress, and insurance coverage.
Some patients only need a short stay, while others may require additional time to safely recover. Your care team will review your progress regularly and discuss your plan with you.
What Happens Next?
As you recover, your care needs may change. Some patients are able to return home with or without additional services, while others may need ongoing support.
Our team will:
- Reassess your needs
- Help coordinate next steps
- Connect you with appropriate services
If longer-term support is needed, we will help guide you through available options.
Insurance and Coverage
Coverage for swing bed care depends on your insurance plan and medical needs. Medicare and other insurers have specific guidelines for skilled services.
Our team will help:
- Review your coverage
- Obtain any necessary approvals
- Explain your options and next steps
Care Coordination & Support
Throughout your stay, your care team—including providers, nursing staff, social work, and care coordination—will work together to support your recovery and plan for a safe transition.
We are here to answer your questions and help you feel confident in your care plan.
